By creating art, it allows me to express myself without words and to translate emotions into color and form. In everyday life, I like to get things done quickly, but the moment I hold a brush, time slows down. Painting gives me a sense of peace as I let my intuition take over and create something without a plan.

From a young age, I’ve also been fascinated by Batik. My grandfather often shared stories about his childhood in Indonesia, proudly wearing his Batik shirts, and my mother continued that tradition with her favorite patterns.

After she passed away, I created an artwork from one of her Batik pieces: a colorful piece that radiated her warmth and connection. It captured the beauty of Indonesia and became the beginning of Studio Batik Batik.

Together with Nikky, we turned that passion and shared connection to Indonesia into a brand that blends heritage with design. Our vision is to bring traditional, handcrafted Batik into modern art and accessoires

We collaborate directly with local artisans in Java and Bali, ensuring fair production and giving back to the communities that make our work possible.

Today, my creative journey continues on Bali - focussing on creating artworks for hotels and villas that reflect Indonesia’s beauty and soul. In this journey, I’m building a team of talented artisans to craft the frames, and supporting local creatives by offering visibility, fair opportunities, and giving back through art donations to Balinese families.

Alongside the Batik artworks, Studio Batik Batik is launching a collection of handmade bags and accessories. Our webshop will be live soon - you can order from the Netherlands or have your items delivered right here in Bali.

Webshop launching soon!!

Lastly, beyond art, my biggest passion is to spread kindness. In my previous role at De Special Social Club, I spent almost five years creating a social community for, among others, my sister Joy who has a mental disability. Through that experience, I discovered my true purpose: to see and support people who are not always seen.

I feel incredibly grateful for where I grew up, for my family, friends, and the opportunities I’ve been given. That’s why sharing and giving back have become such an important part of who I am. I know I can’t change the whole world, but I can make the world around me a little brighter. My power of giving and sharing - it already begins with something as simple as a smile.

When I was younger, I used to say to my friends: “one day, when I die, I want to be in the newspaper.” Not because I wanted fame, but because I wanted to share an important message: but to remind people to truly see one another, to smile to others, and to share with love and kindness.

Now that I have my own website, why not sharing that message already.. :)

With love, Jil
